Diet
Snakes consume a variety of items including termites, rodents, birds, frogs, small deer and other reptiles. Snakes eat their prey whole and are able to consume prey three times larger than the diameter of their head because their lower jaw can separate from the upper jaw. To keep prey from escaping, snakes have rear-facing teeth that hold their prey in their mouths.

Venomous snakes inject their prey with venom, while constrictors squeeze their prey. They do not need to hunt everyday. Anacondas and pythons can survive for up to a year without food after feeding. Snakes hunt mostly at night.

Most snake species lay eggs, but some species give birth to live young. Snakes lay their eggs in a warm location. With the exception of some python species, eggs and young are not cared for by the male or female.

The Amazon tree boa (Corallus hortulanus) is a non-venomous boa species found in the Amazon Basin in South America with no subspecies currently recognized.

The Amazon tree boa like its name indicates is an arboreal species usually found in trees and other vegetation, for that reason they have a long, strongly prehensile tail to help them move through the trees.

The Amazon tree boa is notoriously aggressive, and because of its temperament, the species was often overlooked in the exotic pet trade. hey aren't nearly as docile as the popular boa constrictor (Boa constrictor) or the ball python (Python regius) particularly wild-collected specimens.

n the wild, the Amazon tree boa feeds mostly on rodents, bats, small mammals, small reptiles, frogs, insects, and even birds. Their diet changes as they grow juveniles will feed mostly on small lizards.

Amazon tree boas reach sexual maturity at about 3 years of age. They share their habitat with other members of the Corallus family and sometimes interbreed with the incredibly beautiful Emerald tree boa (Corallus caninus) producing a beautifully colored hybrid offspring.

Amazon tree boa is listed as a Least Concern species based on its very large distribution which includes numerous protected areas, the lack of perceived widespread threats and a presumed fairly large population.
